This recipe uses the inverted method, which gives you more control over steep time. If you prefer the standard orientation, the steps are similar — just work a little faster after adding your water.
1. Set up inverted
Place the plunger in the Aeropress chamber about 1cm up. Flip the whole unit upside down so it stands on the plunger. Rinse your filter, snap it into the cap, and set aside.
2. Grind and add your coffee
Grind 15g to a medium-fine grind and add to the chamber. Give it a gentle shake to level the bed.
3. Add water and start your timer
Pour 200g of water (88–92°C) over the grounds. Fill to just below the top of the chamber. Give it a quick stir — three or four rotations is enough — to make sure all the grounds are saturated.
4. Steep
Attach the filter cap. Let the coffee steep for 1 minute total from the start of your pour.
5. Flip and press
At the 1 minute mark, carefully flip the Aeropress onto your mug. Apply slow, steady pressure to the plunger. The press should take about 20–30 seconds. Stop when you hear a faint hiss — that's air, and it means you're done. Don't force it.
6. Taste and adjust.
The Aeropress is easy to tweak. Too bitter? Grind coarser or reduce steep time. Too thin or sour? Grind finer or steep a little longer. The recipe above is a reliable baseline — adjust from there.
